Join authors Andrea Kramer and Alton Harris as they discuss their newest book entitled It's Not You, It's the Workplace: Women's Conflict at Work and the Bias that Built It. Their book offers a fresh approach to understanding why women's relationships with other women at work are often fraught, and when they are, have the potential to completely derail women's careers.
Join us for a discussion of this pervasive and complicated issue, where Andrea and Alton will provide real-world advice and tactics for how both men and women can overcome and avoid workplace conflict, and most-importantly, build on the positive aspects of women-to-women relationships, develop stronger networks that foster women's career success, and create a more supportive and satisfying work environment for everyone.
See below for more info about our speakers, our Huddle, and how to access the meeting. We look forward to connecting on May 1st from Noon – 1 pm EDT.
About Our Speakers
Andrea S. Kramer, J.D., Northwestern University School of Law
Andrea S. Kramer is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and an adjunct professor at her alma mater, Northwestern University School of Law. Andie is a founding member of McDermott's Diversity Committee and co-chair of its Gender Diversity Subcommittee. She previously served on its Management Committee and Compensation Committee. For more than 30 years, Andie has worked to promote gender equality in the workplace. Andie currently serves on the advisory board to the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism, Diversity and Inclusion. Finding that mentorship opportunities for young professional women are limited in most professional organizations, Andie co-founded and serves as board chair of the Women's Leadership and Mentoring Alliance (WLMA), a not-for-profit corporation that brings professional women together to mentor and support leadership opportunities for women at all stages of their careers.
Alton B. Harris, J.D., Harvard Law School
Alton B. Harris was a founding partner of the law firm of Ungaretti & Harris, and is now a partner (retired) from Nixon Peabody LLP. Al also is an adjunct professor at Northwestern University School of Law. At Ungaretti & Harris, Al served for many years as managing partner and then as a member of its Executive and Compensation Committees. Over the course of his career, Al has grown increasingly concerned about the barriers and biases women face in traditionally male career environments. Because of this concern, Al has mentored and advised women in many career fields, focusing on the communication skills they need to advance despite the prevalence of negative gender stereotypes. Al speaks to women and men on gender bias from a man's perspective, providing an unfamiliar voice on this topic. He speaks to women about what male colleagues expect from future leaders, and he offers women creative ideas and useful techniques to be seen as talented and ambitious leaders. Al also speaks to organizations and the men that run them about the impact gender bias has on their organizations and teams, providing practical steps to eliminate gender bias.

We currently have over 200 members, both men and women, who are invited to participate in our meetings. Every other month, we invite a speaker to lead our discussion for the benefit of all.
If you have recommendations for future Huddle speakers, please reach out to our Huddle Coordinator, Michelle Fabry at mmfabry@wegmanlaw.com.
